How does the online locksmith course work?

Locksmith Tool Package!

You need the right tools to learn the skills of the locksmith, so we send you a full locksmith tool kit. We training you one to one online how to use each tool. You then watch our easy to follow videos, download our manuals and eBooks and then its all about physical practice!

Locks and Hardware!

You will need a host of locks and hardware to learn on, so we send you a full training package filled with everything from practice locks to 3 star rated high security locks, handles, gearbox's and more! You can now learn on these items before moving to working on your homes doors and windows!

A Home Lock Lab

As part of the course we also send you a home lock lab study kit, this has everything in it to setup a home lock lab, from mats to protect desks to vice that hold locks, a web cam so we can host video training and you can record assignments, a tripod for your phone and cam plus much more!

One to One Training!

Our online locksmith course is also one to one with your own instructor who is LTTA certified, and a 3rd generation master locksmith. You will have access to a extensive video library, all documents, eBooks and manuals. You will complete tasks and assignments which are all hands on!

The stages of the online locksmith course

Stage 1 - Enrolment!

You will need to enrol on the locksmith online course where we can ask a few simple questions. We can then make sure you are eligible for the course.

Please note you must NO CRIMINAL records, you must also be a UK resident for over 10 years.

Once you are accepted you can pay for the course and we will ship everything to you!

2 - We Post Everything!

Yoi will receive via currier a lock lab training kit, a selection of locks and hardware to train on, a full locksmith tool kit to train with along with all items you need to under take on the course and you will keep all of it at the end of the course to use on your new locksmith business! You will have plenty of time to master each tools and lock with hands on practice!

3 - Set Up The Lock Lab!

Once you receive the items we will have your online access setup, you will log in with your instructor who will assist with the home setup of the lock lab and setting up the web cam and tripod along with explain what tool does what and each of the locks and hardware! You can then get to know each item before your course starts! This will get you used to each tool!

4 - One to One Training!

We will start on the foundation level and work through each assignment. You can do your sessions when you like and take as long as you need to learn each skill. You will have assignments to carry out and you will record the assignment via the camera supplied and send it to us for assessment and grading! Its real that easy! You can learn at your own pace and we are available each day for advice!

Train from home, learn at your own pace!

On the online locksmith course you will enter each stage and earn a skilled based award. It is a tested award through the Guild of Master Locksmiths UK. You can find out more about there awards by clicking here.

Below you can see the stages of the course and the time for each section based on the standard pace of learning! All training is via video calling, then you will receive your assignments, log on to the online training portal, and start at section 1, video 1 and start to learn. When it comes time to do assignments we can open up a video session, we can answer your questions, correct your techniques and offer advice if you get stuck!

What you will require: Access to a computer with internet access. You will also require a home lock lab training kit which will be sent out by the locksmith training provider. You may require some additional items such as DIY materials and DIY tools.

Who will teach the course?: You will undertake this with a one to one online LTTA certified instructor via video calling and via pre recorded video format along with downloading the required manuals. Once you have studied the full level and had plenty of practice in your home lock lab you will undertake the level 1 exam n person online with your LTTA instructor.

The Course Stages:

Part 1 - Foundation - 2 - 4 weeks with a LFA1. LFA1 Award which is the Locksmith Foundation Award Level 1.

Why do I need the LFA1?: This award gives you a solid foundation to start your locksmith training. Its helps you by giving a foundation to build your education on and it helps with time management. The next stage from this is to move on to hands on training with a LTTA locksmith trainer. While on video calls, you do not want to be wasting time by asking very basic questions. If you generally do not know then that's fine. You are all in the training program to learn. But it helps streamline the time management and move into more complex training modules.

Part 2 - Level 1 GMLUK full award. - 8 - 10 weeks of online training with final online exam. This will give you a level 1 award.

This is a level 1 full award that is undertaken in a home lock lab that will be provided by your trainer. You will work to practice the skill sets of lock picking level 1, bypass level 1, standard security locks level 1, door maintenance parts replacement level. Multi point doors level 1, door servicing level 1, locksmith tools level 1, fitting level 1, insurance regulations level 1. fire regulations level 1, commercial locks and hardware level 1. Lever locks level 1, latch locks level 1. Plus much more!

The Guild of Master Locksmiths UK Level 1 Award which is the first full award in locksmith training. A level 1 award is what's required by landlords, estate agents handymen / woman. This is a skills based award.

Part 3 - Level 2 GMLUK full award - 7 - 14 weeks of online training with final online exam. This will give you a level 2 award.

The Guild of Master Locksmiths UK Level 2 Award which is the second full award in locksmith training. A level 2 award is what's required by a locksmith to undertake work with a locksmith business, to be able to work as locksmith for an employer.

About the award: This is a level 2 full award that is undertaken in a home lock lab that will be provided by your trainer. You will work to practice the skill sets of lock picking level 2, bypass level 2, moderate security locks level 2, door maintenance parts replacement level 2. Multi point doors level 2, door servicing level 2, locksmith tools level 2, fitting level 2, insurance regulations level 2. fire regulations level 2, commercial locks and hardware level 2. Lever locks level 2, latch locks level 2, level 2 in safes, level 2 in office, medical grade locks, composite door locks and hardware level 2, UPVC door repair level 2, Toe and Heeling level 2, decoding lever locks level 2, decoding pin tumbler locks level 2, lock bumping standard cylinders level 2. Plus much more!

GMLUK Level 2 can be taken on its own for trades people. But it part of a larger frame work which has 4 complete levels that increase in difficulty. The level 2 award is a locksmith award and only trades people or locksmiths looking for employment with a locksmithing company and performing advanced locksmith skills would require this award.

Part 4 - Level 3 GMLUK full award - 7 - 14 weeks of online training with final online exam. This will give you a level 3 award.

The Guild of Master Locksmiths UK Level 3 Award which is the third full award in locksmith training. A level 3 award is what's required by a locksmith to operate there own locksmith business or to be able to work as locksmith for an employer. The level 3 award is an advanced award.

About the award: This is a level 3 full award that is undertaken in a home lock lab that will be provided by your trainer. You will work to practice the skill sets of lock picking level 3, bypass level 3, high security locks level 3, manual dimple lock picking level 3, manual picking of diamond rated locks level 3, mortice lock picking level 3, locksmith tool making level 3, door maintenance parts replacement level 3, multi point doors level 3, automatic multi points level 3, door servicing and repair level 3, locksmith tools level 3, EPG entry level 3, rapid entry level 3, fitting level 3, high security commercial locks and hardware level 3, lever locks level 3, latch locks level 3, office, medical grade locks, anti barricade locks level 3, composite door locks and hardware level 3, UPVC door repair level 3, technical entry level 3, decoding lever locks level 3, decoding pin tumbler locks level 3, door breaching level 3, telescopic pin systems level 3, impressioning level 3, covert entry part 1 level 3, lock bumping dimple and high security level 3, forgotten skills part 1 level 3. Plus much more!

Part 5 - Level 4 GMLUK full award - 15 - 31 weeks of online training with final online exam. This will give you a level 4 award.

The Guild of Master Locksmiths UK Level 4 Award which is the fourth full award in locksmith training. A level 4 award is what's required by a locksmith to operate there own locksmith business but for advanced work, such as working with forensic locksmithing, covert entry etc.

About the award: This is a level 4 full award that is undertaken in a home lock lab that will be provided by your trainer. You will work to practice the skill sets of lock picking level 4, re-keying level 4, re-pinning level 4, technical bypass level 4, high security locks level 4, manual dimple lock picking level 4, manual picking of diamond rated, KABA, Mul-T-Lock locks level 4, mortice lock picking level 4, locksmith tool making level 4, locksmith tools level 4, rapid entry level 4, high security commercial locks and hardware level 4, technical entry level 4, decoding lever locks level 4, decoding pin tumbler locks level 4, telescopic pin systems level 4, magnetic pin systems level 4, electronic locks level 4, Impression and duplication level 4, covert entry part 2 level 4, lock, forgotten skills part 2 level 4. Plus much more!

GMLUK Level 4 award is only available to locksmiths that have all previous awards and training. This award is the award that allows you to go onto the Master Locksmith Excellence 10 year award which is advanced every 3 years of the locksmith trading.

WHO CAN UNDERTAKE THIS COURSE?

Requirements:

No criminal convocations (Must have a recent DBS - Date Barring Service Check)
Must be a UK resident for longer than 10 years!
You will need a laptop with internet connection and secure network
You will need a space to setup a lock lab, a small working area by the laptop
You will need access to doors and windows on your home, UPVC, Composite or wood doors
No other prior skills required. Ideally you will know how to use basic DIY tools.

Course length: 12 Months, broken down into sections. However you could be operational and trading by 15 to 20 weeks depending how quick we get to the level 3 award. After that you will be working towards the level 4 award which leads to the master locksmith award.

Price of the course: £3250. You would need to pay a £800 deposit so we can pay the deposit on the tool and stock package. The remainder of your balance, the £2450 would be due 28 days before the course start day.

Certification and registration costs and exam costs.

Each level has an award and certificate that is sent out to you along with any badges for your use in the business such as the Safe Contractor Approved badge etc.

Locksmith Tool Set

We supply a full locksmith tool set as you will need the tools to complete the course and then f=to be able to go out and carry out work on doors and locks. Our tool kits are at trade price and many are security products that you can't buy without your certification.

Hence why we supply a tool kit as it is more cost effective than you paying full price. One tool may cost us £89.99 at trade price when retail would be £420.

Locksmith Hardware and Training Set

We supply a full hardware set which is vital for your training, these are items which will be taken apart to learn how they work, what's inside of them, how the break and fail and how we repairer them or replace them. You will need practice locks to start on that increase with difficulty as the course moves on to different levels, moving from see through locks to metal body locks, from standard cylinders to 3 star rated cylinders. You need the correct vices at the correct hight to help build strength in your arms and hands as our hands are often working above our shoulder line.

The Home Lock Lab

We supply a full home lock lab which you need to be able to undertake the course and work on locks and hardware. You will find key items such as a web cam which allows your instructor to view your hands as you work on the locks, they can then correct you technique. You also need it to record your assignments such as picking the lock on your door which you can use the tripod for. You will find a protective pinning mat designed specifically for locksmithing along with vice for gripping the cylinder to working on hardware. You will find things like magnification lens with a light that plugs in to the USB along with the eBooks, endoscope camera and much more.
